Grind Size
Your coffee preferences will guide you in choosing the ideal brewing method as well as the right grind size. This will require some exploration and learning your roast preferences to understand your coffee beans.
Fine Grinds
Espresso – Requires a very fine grind to produce a rich, concentrated shot.
AeroPress (when making espresso-style drinks) – A finer grind is used to achieve a strong, smooth coffee.
Moka Pot – This stovetop espresso maker needs a fine grind for optimal pressure and flavor extraction.
Turkish Coffee – The coffee is ground to a very fine powder to create a thick, unfiltered brew.
Medium Grind
Pour-Over (Hario V60) – A medium grind is recommended for the Hario V60 to achieve a balanced flow rate and flavor extraction.
Pour-Over (Chemex) – A medium grind helps to control the extraction and avoid over-extraction, contributing to a clean and flavorful cup.
Aeropress (Regular Brew) – For making coffee with the Aeropress, a medium grind is used to achieve a smooth and well-balanced cup, though grind size can vary based on brewing time and method.
Coffee Percolator – A medium grind prevents the coffee grounds from becoming too fine and potentially clogging the percolator’s filter, ensuring a steady flow of coffee.
Siphon – For some siphon recipes, a medium grind is used to maintain clarity and balance extraction during the brewing process.
Coarse Grind
French Press – A coarse grind is essential to prevent coffee grounds from slipping through the filter and to ensure a smooth, non-gritty cup.
Cold Brew – A coarse grind is used to avoid over-extraction and bitterness during the long steeping process, leading to a smoother and less acidic coffee.

We prefer to use a 1:15 ratio on our pour overs.
